The perfect white shirt

Considering the world is flooded with white shirts, finding the perfect one seems like a never-ending quest. They’re too long in the collar, too wide in the body, too short in the sleeve, too flimsy in the material…the list of minor but oh-so-important points that make each one not quite right is endless.

When I recently picked up a copy of COS’s magazine (which is brilliant and free, you can also read it online) and read that they were re-introducing 10 of their best-selling white shirts I was excited an inappropriate amount.

COS, or Collection Of Style, is a Swedish fashion retailer owned by the H&M Group which aims to provide quality and high-end design at affordable prices, creating pieces that are timeless yet modern. (A simple goal yet one scarily scarce on the British high street previously.) I love browsing their stores; they’re always immaculately tidy, well-edited, and have me lusting after at least 50% of the stock.

I practically sprinted to Westfield London the day these 5-year anniversary shirts went on sale, snapping up the last number 1 in my size. Number 1 is influenced by menswear: the shape is quite square with a neat collar and one breast pocket. It’s perfect. The lovely cashier told me that they weren’t receiving anymore stock so fate was obviously smiling on me that day.

The shirts are all quite different and are all absolutely beautiful. I plan on buying a couple more – including another number 1, am I able to find it, for when I inevitably spill on this one. What type of white shirt do you favour? Have you bought any of these anniversary shirts?

Ah that shirt looks amazing and the price is pretty good. I may have to reinvest. The number 1 style is my fave I think, gutted I missed out on it!

    • Becky

They’re so reasonable – I think this style is actually the cheapest but I believe they’re all £45 or under.

I’m determined to hunt down more, planning to hit Westfield Stratford & Covent Garden this week! x

Looks fab, what does the material feel like? I’ve had COS shirts before and the fabric has been strange and papery, creasing easily.

    • Becky

      Hi Sarah,

      Thank you!

The material is a good quality cotton, semi-sheer but not to the point of having to wear another top underneath. There were creases when I took it off yesterday but only in places you’d expect e.g. at the inside of the elbows.

      I hope that helps! x

I like how you are wearing this white shirt!
the necklace from your mum is simply great! I love it :)

      Thanks so much Chiara!

Isn’t it pretty? She has good taste :) x

i love a good white shirt… they go with just about everything and don’t follow the trend so they’re always a classic piece

I have never shopped with cos, I have walked passed their stores before and liked what I saw with a quick glimpse. Not sure if it is my browser, but their menu and header scrolls down with me and covers the items on their website, which is quite annoying. I still haven’t found the perfect white shirt and I LOVE the look of this one x

    • chiaweb

it happens the same with my browser, Kylie!

  • Hannah

Oh wow, this shirt is perfection! I am really hoping COS delivers worldwide because I *love* a good white shirt and haven’t been able to find any similar ones in Australia! Love the whole outfit, actually! :)

  • Ashleigh

A timeless piece that every girl should own!

There’s definitely something so timeless about a white shirt, but I completely agree that it can be quite a mission to try and find the perfect one! xoxo

so, so, so true, finding an impeccably fit and clean white blouse is a near impossible daunting task. i have a beautiful brooks brothers french cuff men’s shirt, but it is a bit too large, so serves more as a fun tunic than a versatile blouse.

    great suggestion!

Every girl needs the perfect white shirt in her closet but sadly I have yet to find mine! This one looks amazing on you! It’s revived my motivation to keep looking for my perfect white button down :)

    Love, Rachel

The shirt looks nice! I also didn’t know that Vivienne Westwood had collaborated with Lee jeans!

I am STILL on the hunt for the perfect menswear inspired white buttoned down shirt. I have several billowing silken white blouses, but to find one that is tailored for my body is almost impossible! If it fits on the bust, it’s baggy as hell everywhere else.

I am glad that you found a well fitted shirt, it gives me hope that my perfect match is waiting out there for me.

    :) Ewa
