On yet another drizzly day (and with pretty much non-stop rain forecast for the next week) I popped to South Molton Street for a ray of sunshine in the form of Olivia Rubin and her autumn/winter 2012 collection.
This was my first time meeting Olivia and I found her to be utterly charming – the type of girl you want to be your BFF. Now in her seventh season, since graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2007 she has worked for Alexander McQueen and John Galliano, the latter of which chose some of her print designs for his SS06 womenswear collection.
Olivia’s signature brick print – inspired by “wolf-whistling builders” – is present in this new collection alongside pretty floral patterns and some delightful intarsia knitwear (my favourite being the ball of wool jumper Olivia herself was wearing). Dresses were ultra-flattering, with drapes and panelling in all the right places, tops were trimmed with peplums, and cropped wool jackets featured colourful silk edging. Oh-so girly and oh-so wearable!
This week also saw the launch of the capsule collection ‘Olivia Rubin for Dorothy Perkins‘, featuring printed dresses and tops (of course) alongside swimwear and a soon-to-be-available jewellery range. (Other collaborators include ASOS, OPI and very.co.uk.)
