Considering the world is flooded with white shirts, finding the perfect one seems like a never-ending quest. They’re too long in the collar, too wide in the body, too short in the sleeve, too flimsy in the material…the list of minor but oh-so-important points that make each one not quite right is endless.
When I recently picked up a copy of COS’s magazine (which is brilliant and free, you can also read it online) and read that they were re-introducing 10 of their best-selling white shirts I was excited an inappropriate amount.
COS, or Collection Of Style, is a Swedish fashion retailer owned by the H&M Group which aims to provide quality and high-end design at affordable prices, creating pieces that are timeless yet modern. (A simple goal yet one scarily scarce on the British high street previously.) I love browsing their stores; they’re always immaculately tidy, well-edited, and have me lusting after at least 50% of the stock.
I practically sprinted to Westfield London the day these 5-year anniversary shirts went on sale, snapping up the last number 1 in my size. Number 1 is influenced by menswear: the shape is quite square with a neat collar and one breast pocket. It’s perfect. The lovely cashier told me that they weren’t receiving anymore stock so fate was obviously smiling on me that day.
The shirts are all quite different and are all absolutely beautiful. I plan on buying a couple more – including another number 1, am I able to find it, for when I inevitably spill on this one. What type of white shirt do you favour? Have you bought any of these anniversary shirts?
