Southbank Christmas Market

The London Southbank carousel at night

I get unashamedly giddy about Christmas and now that it’s only a couple of weeks away it seems more acceptable to share my excitement (though I admit I’ve been watching festive films, listening to Christmassy music and drinking mulled wine since November). Last week we spent an evening at the Southbank Christmas Market, where we indulged in bratwurst, Glühwein, and Bailey’s hot chocolate while joyfully gawking at the most realistic Santa you could ever wish to see.

I may be biased but this market isn’t quite as good as Manchester’s annual event - for a start it’s much smaller and secondly (unsurprisingly) it can get very, very busy at the weekends. It is still definitely worth a peek but so if you are planning a visit I’d recommend popping down on a weekday evening.

p.s. From Thursday-Sunday this week head down to the Scoop, where More London’s Christmas Market is also taking place! Ho ho ho!

Southbank Christmas Market, Queen’s Walk – between the London Eye and the Southbank Centre (nearest tube: Waterloo). Open Mon-Fri 11am-10pm, Sat-Sun 10am-10pm until 24th December 2012.

Oh I remember walking back through here between a Guardian party at the Tate Modern and drinks in the House of Commons bar last December -so beautiful, festive and the whole area smells delicious from what I remember!

I would happily drink mulled wine October straight through to March!

I’m not sure if you’ve been to the Manchester Christmas markets this year but they are crazy busy.. worse than ever I think. Which is great for the stallholders obviously, but makes me not want to go as much. I feel like I’m missing out!

The only thing the Manchester one lacks is a carousel.. I love the one in your pictures.

Ah, a good Christmas market is perfect for getting into the Christmas spirit, but I must admit the Southbank one is a bit too small and crowded for me…maybe I should check out what Manchester has to offer!

Oooh I love Christmas markets! I’m actually not religious but how can you not love fairy lights, elves, candies and mulled wine?? I can’t wait to go to Winter Wonderland as well! I always go whenever I can! *_*
