The rise and rise of Pinterest is well-publicised and phenomenal: between May and December last year the number of members rocketed to 13 million (source: this infographic comparing UK and US Pinterest users). I only joined a couple of months ago but it’s safe to say I’m addicted, having amassed 615 pins already!
At the risk of sounding a bit patronising, for those who might not be sure what I’m talking about, Pinterest is a virtual pinboard and social networking site which you can use to collate images on anything you like: fashion, DIYs, interior design, travel, food, etc.
Here are 3 things I love about Pinterest:
1/ It’s a fantastic source of inspiration
First and foremost, Pinterest inspires me on a daily basis. Every time I log on I end up repinning image after image, some of which are just pretty photos of pretty clothes or hair tutorials, others are great DIYs or interior design ideas. Whenever I’m in a rut I’ll revisit Pinterest and soon find my brain is ticking over again.
2/ It’s a handy way to store images and ideas
Pinning images couldn’t be simpler and board organisation is easy-peasy. Simply name your board, give it a description (if you wish), and choose a category e.g. women’s apparel.
Using obvious descriptions for both boards and images helps others to find them and if similar items are grouped together it’s also easier for people to browse your boards to find other things that might interest them – or for you to find something you’ve pinned in the future.
3/ It’s a great way to discover new blogs
Every time a new pin is added to Pinterest (as opposed to being repinned) it’s source is also added, so if I see an image that I really like I can click on the link above it to be taken to the blog or site that it’s from. Great, right?
I’ve just started to pin images from my blog to Pinterest so time will tell if they start sending any traffic my way…
Pinterest is invite-only so if you’d like an invitation just comment below or tweet me!
